Oh how time flies! Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger Bar is a year old.
Not only has the restaurant brought much-needed quality beer and food to the neighborhood, it has helped to transform a corner that, since it was home to the Texas Trap, was an eyesore. I vaguely recall when it was Texas Trap, and, as memory serves, the ambiance was different from the hip classy-dive vibe that entered with Goodfriend.
Goodfriend owners Matt Tobin and Josh Yingling remember what it was like before they moved in.
“I used to drive by that corner every day. It was a dark, crime-ridden area—it looked miserable,” says Tobin. “We decided to join the team at Good 2 Go Taco in an effort to improve the surrounding area and make it a safer place for our neighbors to enjoy.”
The improvements the guys have made include landscaping their lot and the median across the street, adding additional lighting for safety, and, with the landlord, repaving the parking lot.
The Goodfriend anniversary party starts next Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m., will last until close and will feature drink specials, and featured beers such as Great Divide 18, Stone 16, Real Ale Barrel Aged 15, Ommegang Independence Day 2012, Deschutes Black Butte 24, and Real Ale Scots Gone Wild. A special guest band will take the stage at 10 p.m., followed by a Slick 57 reunion set at 11 p.m.
