As the summer Olympics kick off, the event in London seems far far away, but didja know that several past (and at least one present) Olympic athletes hail from right here in Lake Highlands? For one, Lake Highlands High grad Darvis Patton is a member of the U.S. 4 x400 relay team.
In 2008 The Advocate tracked down all the former Olympians we could find. Here’s what we came up with:

Darvis Patton, track, Olympic Games: 2004 in Athens, Medals won: Silver in the 4×100 men’s relay
Erin Aldrich, track, Olympic Games: 2000 in Sydney (Erin is also a professional volleyball player who missed the 2008 team due to injury)
Peter Snell, New Zealand runner, Olympic Games: 1960 in Rome, ; 1964 in Tokyo, Medals won: Two gold in the 800 meter and one gold in the 1500 meter

Ryan Berube, American swimmer, Olympic Games: 1996 in Atlanta, Ga.
