Colorful new banners have been installed around Lake Highlands to welcome visitors and promote special events, courtesy of the hard work and fundraising prowess of the Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League. The banners currently herald LH’s Fourth of July Parade, sponsored by the LH Exchange Club, but they’ll be changed out to publicize Oktoberfest, the LH Women’s League Home Tour and the LHJWL’s own Fun Run.

The banners were made possible by the success of the Fun Run in April, which raised $37,000 and was a community-building event, especially for young neighborhood families. After the run, a carnival with bounce house, petting zoo and pony rides attracted the kind of demographics LH realtors can only dream of.

The LHJWL began in 2004 with 85 young women, aided by sage mentoring by LH Women’s League members. Today they stand firmly on their own feet, with 125 active members, 28 sustainers and a lengthy waiting list of women hoping to jump onboard. This year they also led a school supply drive to support needy children at Northlake Elementary, and at Christmas they provided school uniforms, shoes and toys for 100 students at Skyview and Aikin. This is, of course, in addition to the volunteering many of the women do as individuals in their own kids’ schools.

Take a minute today to enjoy the banners. We appreciate you, LHJWL!
