Kirk Johnson has been hired to create a series of commercials for the soft drink Big Red, and the off-beat humor we saw when he was a Bell Boy and LHHS 2003 grad comes shining through. You can see the video above, and three more commercials will follow soon.

Kirk submitted a Dorito’s ad for the 2011 Super Bowl as part of a national contest (it didn’t win but was very funny and got lots of online exposure) and he was involved in the making of Austin High, a full length feature film now available on iTunes and cable On Demand and coming soon to Netflix and Amazon. Kirk is currently traveling on a 13-city tour as part of his live show, Jurassic Farce, which brings the classic dinosaur movie to the stage with an extra helping of wackiness.

Kirk is enjoying the success of a growing trend to take marketing to younger audiences via social media such as Youtube and Facebook. In today’s world where most teenagers have a smartphone, a viral video can reach large target audiences at a fraction of the cost of a national TV or newspaper ad.

Just don’t tell Mom.
