Drama, suspense, passion, comedy — man can’t wake up from nightmare, woman talks to coyote, widow finds love with a photographer. These are but some elements and themes theatergoers can expect at the fourteenth annual Festival of Independent Theaters, all set for Friday July 13 through August 4 at the Bath House Cultural Center at White Rock Lake.
The FIT offers a unique opportunity to check out a wide variety of short plays. The four-week festival features eight shows, each less than an hour long, in two-show blocks. Here is a show schedule. And a description of each play, here.
Buy a 2-week festival pass for $60, a 4-week pass for $70 or individual tickets for $18.
This year’s line-up includes festival founding companies WingSpan Theatre Company and Echo Theatre, as well as Churchmouse Productions, FTP Comedy, New Horizons Theatre, One Thirty Productions, Rite of Passage Theatre Company and Upstart Productions.
While you are there check out this year’s bonus, FIT Underground, offering live music and refreshments on the shore level of the Bath House, plus third installment of the popular Fictional art exhibition in the gallery, Fictional showcases the work of local artists commissioned to create pieces inspired by the titles and themes of the festival shows.
