A 32-year-old Lake Highlands woman is under investigation for trying to sell her 4-month-old baby via an online newspaper ad for $4,000. A Florida woman contacted police after first expressing interest in the child, apparently even discussing traveling to Dallas.
In a strange twist, about the time police were calling in the FBI to further investigate, LH property managers entered the mother’s apartment in the 9700 block of Ferris Branch Road (off Whitehurst near Skillman/Audelia/LBJ) to pursue past-due rent. There they found the baby alone, lying in his crib.
The mother was arrested Friday afternoon when she returned to the apartment and charged with Child Abandonment with Intent to Return. The baby was fine and was delivered to Child Protective Services.
