In a swearing-in ceremony RISD School Board President Kim Quirk called a “changing of the guard,” longtime trustee Luke Davis vacated his chair in the board chambers at the RISD administration building and Adam Meierhofer took his place.

“This is a very bittersweet evening,” continued Quirk, “as we say goodbye to Mr. Davis and hello to Mr. Meierhofer.”

State Senator Florence Shapiro, also retiring, was on hand to swear in Meierhofer and Kim Caston, continuing for her third term.

“I love Richardson, particularly Richardson ISD,” said Shapiro, who taught English and Speech at Richardson High School for 3 years. “Richardson has always had an amazing reputation as a first class school district, and it’s still a top district in the state of Texas.”

“No matter how difficult things get, or how many calls you get from the community about a particular issue,” Shapiro advised the trustees, “remember that people trust in you.”

The new board’s first order of business was to elect officers:

President-Kim Quirk

VP-Karen Holburn

Secretary-Kris Oliver

Treasurer-Kim Caston

Texas Association of School Boards Delegate-Lanet Greenhaw

TASB Alternate-Kim Caston

Congratulations, and best of luck Adam!
