Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League is busy preparing for their 8th annual Run the Highlands event Saturday, April 28th. The one-mile Family Walk begins at 8am, and the 5K starts at 8:45, with both races beginning and finishing in front of Lake Highlands High School. The Community Carnival, with activities for the young and young-at-heart, will get going at the LH North Rec Center after the family walk and will end at 11:30am.

Proceeds from this year’s race will be used to design and install boulevard banners in 3 high-traffic locations around LH, promoting community events. In the 8 years since 6 LHHS grads put the organization together with the help of their LH Women’s League mentors (many of whom were their own moms), the group has raised about a quarter of a million dollars for LH causes, including construction of the spray park and revitalization of the rec center. They began with 85 charter members, and they now have 125 members and a healthy waiting list.
