The University of Texas at Dallas hosted the Dallas County Spelling Bee for the third year in a row, and one of the winners is from Lake Highlands.
Kendall Powers of Lake Highlands Jr. High won the public school competition. Her winning word was “sleight.” Shanna Druffner of All Saints Catholic School took first place in the private school competition earlier this month. Her winning word was “galette.”
The two will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee on March 24, competing against students from 38 North and East Texas counties. The next level is the coveted Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
