When a fire broke out in the Sun Colony Apartments Tuesday afternoon, one Lake Highlands family lost everything. They could only stand by helplessly while the building on Royal Lane between Skillman and LBJ burned with all their belongings inside. Investigators say the fire likely started in another unit when a candle lit a potted plant ablaze.

Today, teachers and parents at LHJH are scrambling to help their male student and his LHHS brother before school lets out for the holidays. Though the apartment complex relocated them to another unit, the boys and their mom need clothes and simple household necessities to make it through the Christmas break and begin the new school semester.

If you’d like to help, these items can be delivered to the school before classes let out at 12:30pm today (Friday):

  • Gift cards from Tom Thumb, Target, Walmart, etc.
  • Shirts, men’s size large and XL
  • Shoes, men’s size 9 and 15
  • Pants, men’s size 32 and 42×36
  • Underwear, men’s size L/XL, women’s size L
  • Socks, men’s size L
  • Pots/pans
  • Towels
  • Toiletries: soap, tissue, deodorant, lotion.
