In September’s issue, writer Meghan Riney tackles the question, “Where’s our retail?” It’s a question that has plagued her personally, having grown up in our neighborhood and now living in the L Streets with her husband. So when she set out to write the story, she set out to answer the question of what, if anything, neighbors can do to attract more restaurants and stores.

Her answer: Support local businesses already open, and wait to see what happens. In today’s podcast, Riney talks about how she reached that answer during the process of reporting and writing the story, and gives us a few more story-behind-the-story details about the retail landscape in Lake Highlands.
