For the upcoming September Lake Highlands Advocate, I had the great privilege of talking, at length, with some of the bravest people I’ve met.

These members of a local grief recovery group had lost members of their families to either sudden deaths or deaths following a long life together.

Through each other, the group members have gained strength and the ability to incorporate loss into the fabric of life. They increase that strength by passing it along to others, incoming group members. It is an amazing system of support at the Grief and Loss Center of North Texas, which holds session at the Wilshire Baptist Church (the group itself is not denominational or religious, by the way).

The organization will launch fall grief groups, for people struggling after the death of a loved one. The daytime groups meets from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesdays for six consecutive weeks beginning September 6th. The evening starts the same day and meets from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The center is also launching a divorce support group. The fall Transcending Divorce group begins Wednesday, September 7th, and will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for six consecutive weeks. To register for either group, please contact Laurie Taylor at 214.452.3105.

Groups are limited to ten or fewer participants, so if this is something you or someone you know could use, please get in sooner rather than later.

Look for the full story in a few weeks in the September Lake Highlands Advocate.
