Driving westbound Royal just before reaching Central, neighbors may have noticed a steady flow of truck traffic coming and going from an opening in the fence of Royal Oaks Country Club. Bike path users probably have had an even closer encounter, as the large trucks hop the curb and cross directly over the path just before it snakes underneath Royal.
Because of the tall, green fence surrounding Royal Oaks, curious observers like myself have been left to speculate about the cause for construction. (Installation of a massive sand trap, perhaps?) According to general manager Dave Stuckey, the work is actually to shore up the banks of White Rock Creek, as each rainstorm causes erosion and silting across the property. “Royal Oaks membership is doing all it can to protect the creek wall banks and stop further erosion,” Stuckey said.
For the insatiably curious, Google maps provides a bird’s eye view of some of the construction.
