A while back we wrote a story about Nancy Davenport, a Lake Highlands-based writer inspired by her son, Austin, who has Down syndrome.
Over the weekend, the Morning News ran a front-page piece about Austin and his wife, who are now in their 30s and live in East Dallas. It’s a love story and a bit of a tearjerker.
Austin attended Lake Highlands schools through high school — the latter part in regular rather than special education classes, a right for which Nancy battled tirelessly. I recall his mom telling us, when we interviewed her, that Austin was only “mildly interested” in the fact that she wrote a book that featured his photo on the inside cover.
