Soul Surfer opens nationwide this Friday.

When the new movie “Soul Surfer” opens nationwide this Friday, Executive Producer David Tice wants to make sure Lake Highlands students get to see the film and hear its inspiring message – for free. Tice, who doesn’t live in Lake Highlands but learned to love LH through his college buddy, Eric Luck, is new to the movie-producing game but heard the tale and knew it had to be told. The film is the true story of Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm to a shark bite and recovered through her Christian faith.

To learn more, I spoke to Evan Luck, who graduated from LHHS in 2003 and now works as a private equity analyst for Tice. “Her faith and drive got her through the ordeal,” said Evan. “She didn’t go pro until after her arm was taken. It’s David’s belief that kids today don’t get to watch enough great films with inspiring stories that are also entertaining.” Sounds like something Tice would say. He’s been giving away thousands of dollars in college scholarships to graduating LH students for years through the Lake Highlands Exchange Club.

Soul Surfer is a full-length feature film starring Carrie Underwood, Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid. Lake Highlands area high school and junior high students are invited to a special screening Friday, April 8th at 5 pm at NorthPark AMC. Evan has 200 free tickets, and he invites students to call him at 214-543-2123 to arrange a pickup.
