High school kids are into some pretty outrageous things these days. Thanks in part, I am sure, to television — it’s now cool to sing in the glee club, perform onstage and, yes, even country and western dancing is in. It’s not something I or many people I know could do: these high school western dancers flip and twist and move in a way that’s as impressive as any move on the football field (no offense high school football — you’re number one in the hearts of many).  And they are a hot commodity around the nation. The LHHS Wranglers have performed in a London parade and at presidential inaugurations; the Richardson High School Desperadoes performed at the Super Bowl … you get the idea. Hot.

On Saturday, April 2 at noon, the two aforementioned dance teams will compete against each other, the Berkner Ramblers and the Pearce Mustang Stampede at the Lake Highlands High School auditorium.

Tickets are just $5 and benefit a superb organization called Healing Hands Ministries. Based in Lake Highlands, Healing Hands offers medical and dental care to uninsured and underinsured families in our neighborhood. It has grown since its inception a few years ago and has a far-reaching positive impact on our community. I could go on, but I won’t now. Just know you have two good reasons to get yourself and your family to this gig: good entertainment. Good cause.
