It kicks off Saturday March 12, at 8 a.m. in front of the Green Spot Market and Fuels on Buckner at Northcliff near White Rock Lake. After that, the market will operate the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month through the end of the year. More from Sarah Perry one of the two WRLM founders we interviewed a few months ago, below:

This year the market welcomes back some veteran vendors and adds some new, with a diverse mix of locally grown produce, natural meats and cheese, eggs, artisan breads, tamales and more.

Returning WRLM favorites include Farmer Jones Plants and Produce with organic heirloom produce and seedlings; Windy Hill Farm, with organic produce, eggs and meat; JuHa Ranch, with naturally raised beef, lamb, chicken pork and eggs; Finley Farms and Sachse Heritage Farms with seasonal produce; Sundance Farms with bedding plants, fresh butter, homemade preserves and breads; Texas Worm Ranch with worms, worm castings and compost, as well as black soldier flies to feed backyard chickens; vegan bakers Tough Cookie; Village Baking Company; Empire Baking Company; Texas Olive Ranch; Brennan Vinyards and more. New vendors include Gilbert-Pruett Farms, Elliott Grows, Grapevine Grains and others.

We’ll also continue our tradition of including artists and makers on each 2nd Saturday. Lined up for March 12th are textiles, furniture, jewelry, basket weaving, silk screens, clothing, rain barrels, natural soaps and body products – all made locally.

Upcoming events include a gardening demonstration in April and an on-site art contest in May, as well as a “Market to Menu” chef demonstration with Chad Houser from Parigi in June. In late summer we’ll have a pickling and preserves contest. Fall 2011 will feature WRLM’s second annual Solar Powered Chili Cook-off, and our second annual pie-baking contest.

White Rock Local Market is an independent farmers market, a public space offering a venue for area farmers, ranchers and artisans to sell directly to our East Dallas neighborhood. Our mission is to strengthen our community by creating a meeting place for residents to buy fresh, local and healthy foods. All of our vendors make or grow what they sell and come from within 150 miles of the market.
