I generally steer clear of Studio Movie Grill. I think it’s a clever concept, for a certain type of moviegoer, but I like to lose myself in a show, and that’s hard to do when the guy next to you is ordering a beer or more nachos every 15 minutes.
However, SMG at Royal and I-75 just might win me over with its “SMG with a Twist” lineup. The “alternate and specialty programming” includes documentaries, cheap daytime kids’ flicks and screenings for children with special needs to name a few. For example:
Former WFAA film critic Gary Cogill hosts Film with a View Thursday, Feb. 17. The featured film is a childhood fave, “The Princess Bride”, which begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Feb. 19 screening of Gnomeo and Juliet at 11 a.m. is FREE for families of children with special needs. It’s $5 for everyone else and the proceeds benefit Variety the Children’s Charity.
A FREE screening of March On, the documentary about people who traveled to the 2009 National Equality March, is Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
