LH Military Mom President Rhonda Russell, Donovan Campbell, LH Exchange Club President Tommy Bailey and John Dean

The LH Exchange Club unveiled the 2011 version of their Lake Highlands Heroes poster, which will hang prominently in LH-area businesses. The poster was the brainchild of Exchange Club member John Dean in 2007 and is lovingly updated each year by Rhonda Russell, president of the LH Military Moms. This latest version features 66 service men and women from LH actively serving around the world.

On hand for the unveiling was LH’s Donovan Campbell, a US Marine officer and veteran of two tours of duty in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. The Princeton and Harvard grad wrote Joker One: A Marine Platoon’s Story of Courage, Leadership and Brotherhood. The story of his experiences leading troops in the Marine Infantry is inspirational, and his book is available in bookstores.

This Saturday is the LHEC’s big boxing day for the troops at Knights of Columbus from 9-11 am. Refreshments will be served and Santa Claus will be making an appearance. It’s not too late to deliver goodies for them to pack and ship to soldiers overseas, and you can get more details here.
