Dance instructor? Your skills are needed! I’ve told you time and again about the Madeline Apartments and the superb job the owners have done turning things around. They are looking for a dance instructor to donate time, preferably teaching hip-hop or some genre of contemporary boogie, two days a month at the resource center. The apartments are in way north Lake Highlands, near Audelia and Walnut. One of the Madeline owners, Joe Killinger who started Learning Links programs in California and later in Dallas, says the dance program at a similar apartment community in Los Angeles has been “a huge hit”. To respond, send them an email.
Lake Highlands grad Kendall Johnson, the Volunteer Coordinator at the NETWORK of Community Ministries, which serves underprivileged families in the RISD, is calling for help. “The Network is in dire need of donations and volunteers, especially during this holiday season,” Johnson says. Food is number one on the wish list, including but not limited to: peanut butter, dried macaroni, canned pastas and soup, frozen turkeys, and canned vegetables. Unwrapped toys, coats, and diapers (ages 3-5) are also a priority. Johnson notes that he has created a Facebook, Twitter (@theNETWORKcm), and blog as an easy way to stay updated on current needs, announcements, events and volunteer opportunities. Network: 741 S. Sherman St. Richardson, 972.234.5505.
