The Lake Highlands High School PTA is kicking off their traditional Community Outreach Angels program and they need your help. They’re inviting you to “Adopt a Family for the Holidays” and encouraging you to enlist your friends and neighbors in the effort.

LHHS guidance counselors have been on the look-out all fall for families in need. Some are families grappling with poverty, but many have experienced unexpected recent difficulties such as illness, injury, job loss and/or home foreclosure. Counselors discreetly work with the families to determine their needs (they understand how delicate the student’s pride might be) and they pass along a Wish List to the Angel coordinators.

The easiest way for you to help is to donate gift cards, which can be used to purchase gifts or meals. The Tom Thumb or Kroger cards you buy from the Highlandettes work great (did you know the Dettes offer Picasso’s cards now too?), or you can even re-gift a card that was given to you and never used.

If you’re feeling especially blessed and generous, you can adopt a family and provide a full Christmas, including a gift for every member, stockings for the children and a holiday meal for all. You can partner with your friends on this, or the PTA can link you with some other donor families and y’all can divvy up the tasks. PTA volunteers will deliver your goodies to your family.

Previous years have seen Scout troops, church youth groups, tennis clubs, soccer teams and other organizations work together to adopt LH families. If you’d like to become an LH Angel, email Kim Aman here. You can also sign up online here by entering the passcode “angels.”
