A memorial service for LH’s Merrill Hartman will be held Tuesday, October 26th at 3 pm at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church. Judge Hartman died Friday from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Since writing about Judge Hartman earlier this week, I’ve received an outpouring of messages praising him for his work giving free legal assistance to the poor and remembering him as a man of great faith and unfailing kindness. An article in today’s Dallas Morning News quotes District Court Judge Craig Smith who said, “He is the father of pro bono here in Dallas.”

In a final act of caring for others, Judge Hartman donated his body to science in hopes that a cure for Parkinson’s can be found.
