The LHHS Theatre Dept. will present Les Miserables this weekend

The Lake Highlands High School Theatre Department begins its 2010-11 season this week, presenting Les Miserables, the dramatic story of ex-convict Jean Valjean (played by Jeffy Fowler) and his pursuit by Javert, the relentless police inspector (played by Delaney Sullivan and Peyton Slater, who share the role). The cast and crew of more than 40 students will perform the play, not the musical, demonstrating their talent and hard work under the direction of LHHS Theatre teachers Beauen Bogner and Eric Arpelar.

The play, based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, is set in nineteenth century France and includes an extensive cast of characters, including the tragic Fantine (Emily Hawkins and Isabel Pask), her daughter Cosette (Andrea Beard), the wretched Mr. and Mrs. Thenardier (Jake Gaba and Sarah Newell) and the lovelorn Eponine (Britany Beasley). Senior Coley Quilling (as Adele) is a familiar face to frequent patrons of LHHS productions, having played a wide variety of roles over the years, as has junior Carly Kaplan (as Madamoiselle Gillenormand).

After striking the sets of Les Mis, the group will begin preparations for Music Man, the much-loved musical about con man Harold Hill’s adventures posing as a band director in River City, Iowa and falling in love with Marion the Librarian. No doubt the students will use more than just the “Think Method” as they audition, rehearse and perform for LH audiences. That show opens January 20.

If you’d like to see Les Mis, tickets are available at the door for $10 (reserved), $8 (general) or $5 (students). You can also purchase tickets online here. Performances will be held in the LHHS auditorium Thursday, October 14th at 7 pm and Saturday Oct. 16th at 2 pm and 7 pm. The dark drama is suitable for ages 12 and older.
