With the weather finally cooling, now is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoor patio at the newly opened Mattito’s Tex Mex Cafe. Mattito’s is located in the old Black-Eyed Pea on Forest Lane just west of Central Expressway. And if it gets too cool, the outdoor fireplace will make it cozy.
I sampled the fajitas, sizzling and flavorful, though I preferred the chicken to the beef, which came in medallions instead of strips. I also liked the breakfast tacos, served all day during the week and at their Sunday Brunch, beginning at 10 am.
My hands-down favorite wasn’t even on the menu. It was the Bob Armstrong Queso (just order the “Bob’s” and your waiter will know you’re an “insider”). Bob’s is a tasty creation of creamy queso encasing dollops of quacamole, sour cream and ground beef. You can even enjoy it in their bar while watching football on the big-screen TVs. Delicious.
