LHHS junior Matalee Reed was named All American at the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships in Reno, Nevada

Wildcat volleyball player Matalee Reed will just be junior at LHHS next year, but already she’s earned her chops competing against the best players in the nation and standing tall among them. Matalee’s club team came in second at nationals this weekend, and she earned  All American honors individually.

Matalee traveled to Reno, Nevada with her Skyline Juniors teammates, who play for JJ Pearce, Plano, Allen, Southlake Carroll and other top-notch schools with big-name programs. At 6’2”, Matalee plays outside hitter and is the tallest on the team.

“I’m disappointed because I think we could have won,” said Matalee, “but I’m also proud of our team for coming this far.” A total of 32 teams from around the country competed over four days, with the Nebraska Juniors defeating Skyline in the finals.

“Matalee really enjoys this as she has good friends on several of the teams,” said dad, Rob. “It’s a great group of girls who are amazing athletes and competitors. Earning the silver medal was a reward for the many hours spent in conditioning and training. I cannot be more proud.”

“I did not expect this,” said Matalee, “we were ranked 10th coming in. We always seemed to be the underdog or portrayed as the team that couldn’t quite get it done. But we pushed every single day out here and got all the way to the finals.”

Congratulations, Matalee. We look forward to full gyms and rowdy crowds when LHHS’ volleyball season begins in August.
