In this week’s Lake Highlands podcast, we discuss the Dallas Housing Authority’s new effort to work with neighborhood churches on its supportive housing efforts, as reported in Sunday’s DMN by reporter Kim Horner. The DHA is working with the Greater Dallas Justice Revival and its 1,000 area churches — likely some in our neighborhood, though the website doesn’t include an exhaustive list. Judging from what neighborhood pastors have told us in the past, it may be a smart move on the DHA’s part.

We also discuss the Northeast Patrol Division deputy chief changeover, and how it might affect neighborhood crime. Both deputy chiefs Thomas Lawrence and Jan Easterling were promoted within the Dallas Police Department after their stints at Northeast. Leadership is important, but boots on the ground may be just as crucial — don’t miss Carol Toler’s comparison of Dallas Police efforts to the Iraq War approach.

Stick with us to the end for our shameless plugs — a town hall meeting on the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center, a celebrity chef coming to the Chi Omega Christmas Market, and a new church lecture series on the Ark of the Covenant that includes ancient artifacts and a 1/2-scale model of the ark.
