A church choir from Sao Paulo, Brazil will perform at Wilshire Baptist Church July 20th

The 70 singers and 25 musicians traveling to Dallas this month are looking forward to their homecoming. Most have never visited Dallas – some have never even been to America – but they feel connected to their Texas roots. One hundred years ago, William Buck Bagby, a missionary from Texas, joined a group of local Baptists in Sao Paulo, Brazil to found their church – Igreja Batista da Liberdade.

The Liberdade Baptist Church Alliance Choir will perform in concert at Wilshire Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 20 at 7 pm.

The choir will sing both American and Brazilian religious and popular songs with the enthusiasm and spirit that characterizes Brazilians. They will be conducted by Donaldo Guedes, who perfected his musical talents at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth before returning to Brazil to lead the church’s music ministry.

The Alliance Choir and Orchestra, which has toured Europe, South America and the United States, will present well-known and loved classics like Faure’s Divine Redeemer and Handel’s Halleluiah Chorus. They’ll also perform religious music written by contemporary Brazilian and American composers and sing popular Brazilian and American songs.

The concert is free and open to the public. Wilshire is located at Abrams Road and Mockingbird Lane.
