Just in case you didn’t make it to the end of this week’s Lake Highlands podcast, we didn’t want you to miss our shameless neighborhood plugs:

• The LHHS cheerleaders have begun selling red-out T-shirts for Wildcat fans to wear at the Oct. 15 football game against rival Berkner High School. The $10 T-shirts are available in sizes youth M-L and adult S-XXL. Proceeds help the cheerleaders compete at nationals. Also, as is tradition, Herb’s Paint and Body Shop will underwrite a portion of the T-shirts’ cost, and part of the proceeds will be given back to a Lake Highlands charitable organization. To order a shirt, contact Barb Bryant at 214.676.9796 or barb.bryant10@yahoo.com; or Mary Duncan at 214.348.3648. You can also mail cash or check using this form.

• If you need to air up your tires but don’t want to pay 75 cents, try Lake Highlands Automotive at Royal and Audelia. (If you know of other places with free air in our neighborhood, let columnist Ellen Raff know: eraff@advocatemag.com.)

• Need a cute bow for your little girl? Shop local — neighborhood resident Julie Peek of Julie’s Bows fashions simple but darling (and durable!) hair bows, and she will even set up appointments so that customers can compare outfits to ribbon colors. (You can see an example of Peek’s size 1 bow in my daughter’s hair in the above photo. OK, yes, I’ll use any opportunity to show off my daughter, but hey, this is the shameless plug post …)
