None of the LH tennis qualifiers advanced to the semifinals at the Class 5A Region II tennis tournament Tuesday at Waco Regional Tennis Center, but they did put together some strong performances.
In boys doubles, Ryan Berg and Wil Matthews beat Georgetown in the first round 7-6 (5), 6-4. They faced the number one seed, Tyler Lee in the second round. Berg and Matthews lost the first set 6-0 and were down 3-0 in the second when they staged a comeback. The LH duo won the next four games before falling, 6-4, in the second.
In girls doubles, Maggie Duffy and Ana Lew beat Bryan, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round then lost to the Woodlands in the quarterfinals.
"The kids are great," LH coach Bob Williams said. "They work hard, and they do gain a great deal from their work, discipline and camaraderie."
