The boys track and field team claimed the District 9-5A title by a large margin with 197 points compared to second place Skyline’s 138. The boys qualified 13 athletes for the regional meet, May 3-4 at Baylor. The girls team will send three athletes to regionals.
The boys team won the title by achieving success in a variety of events and doing well in the relays. Meron Fessahaie, Ronnie Jordan, Leith Waithe, Jaymes Bearden and Isaac Grieder all placed first in at least one of their events.
The relays also contributed big points. The 800 and 1,600 relays both brought home gold medals and the sprint relay came in second.
On the girls’ side, Curry Young placed second in the 100 and 200 while Paige McCutcheon won the 400 and Kosi Ekwu was second in the shot put to give the girls a fifth place team finish.
