Lake Highlands dominated the District 9-5A golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at Richardson’s Sherrill Park Golf Course. Six Wildcats placed in the top 10 and senior Randy Appling won the individual title by six strokes.

The Lake Highlands A team finished first with a 644, well ahead of second-place Creekview at 695. The A team, including Appling, Stephen Allen, Bobby Ladtkow, Kyle Kennedy and Taylor Whorton, qualified to compete in the 5A Region II tournament, April 22-23 at Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco.

Also qualifying individually was David Green, who was on the LH B team. Green qualified by being one of the top two players whose teams did not already qualify.

Green is an LH football player who will also be competing in this week’s district track meet.

"I feel like I can do very well at regionals," Green said. "The greens in Waco are much better than they were today. Putting was hard today, but that is something I can improve next week."

LH coach Chris Cole said a strong first day of the tournament was the key to the team’s success.

"Yesterday (Monday) we played very well, it was one of our best rounds of the year," Cole said. "But we need to play better under pressure in Waco. If we play like we did yesterday, then we can end up in the midst of the leaders even though we have a tough region."
