A couple months ago we told you about a Lake Highlands Terri and Rick Hawkins’ efforts to deliver much-needed medical supplies such as crutches to the victims of the Haiti earthquake. With the help of the Lake Highlands community, including many students from Lake Highlands High School, they were able to collect and ship roughly 750 pairs of crutches, 200 walkers, 3 dozen wheelchairs, and 250 plus orthopedic boots and shoes. It took a concerted effort to get the equipment there, Rick Hawkins wrote today in an e-mail:

“Lots of people were involved in the effort to get our durable medical equipment donated, collected, boxed and shipped to Port Au Prince. Our shipment from Dallas went from VCP International warehouse to International Medical Outreach warehouse in Houston; from there to Operation Walk Haiti in Doral , Fl.; from there by ship to Port Au Prince. Operation Walk Haiti oversaw distribution to hospitals and clinics in Haiti.”
