I’m here live in North Richland Hills for the unveiling of the UIL Realignment for the next two academic years, 2010-11 and 2011-2012.

It’s a packed house here at the Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletic Complex waiting for the 9 a.m. announcement. Just about every head football coach and athletic director in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is here, including some from beyond who could be aligned with D-FW districts.

I hope to have reaction from Lake Highlands head football coach and athletic coordinator Scott Smith as soon as he’s available. Once the realignment is revealed, a mad scramble begins to set up non-district football games for the next two seasons. Some newly-formed districts have their first meetings here once the dust has settled to begin ironing out schedules and whatnot.

I spoke with RISD athletic director Bob Dubey on Friday. He reiterated his preference with the UIL that LH, Berkner and Richardson remained aligned with the DISD 5A schools, as opposed to being put back with the huge Plano and Allen schools. Dubey said there’s a possibility the RISD-DISD district could be put into Region I, flip-flopping with the Plano-Allen district which has spent the last two years in Region I. The only difference is that Region I playoffs extend to West Texas, all the way to El Paso, instead of Region II which goes East and South. The Plano schools haven’t liked the travel expenses in Region I and a switch would appease them.

But no one knows for sure until the alignment is revealed minutes from now.
