Tune into the Fiesta Bowl tonight (7 p.m., Ch. 4) and you’ll see Lake Highlands alum Marshall Newhouse protecting TCU’s ballcarriers from the Boise State Broncos. Newhouse is an offensive tackle and wears No. 70 for TCU, although at 6-4, 320 he’s hard to miss.
Newhouse is one of the famed Newhouses of Lake Highlands – uncle Robert Newhouse played running back for the Dallas Cowboys back in the Tom Landry era.
Newhouse was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference player this season and made some All-America lists as well. He has started all but one game the last three years playing for the Horned Frogs.
He graduates in May with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations, but he will also be busy this spring preparing for the NFL draft. Newhouse managed to get a little time at home before heading off to the bowl game. He said no matter where life takes him, the NFL or advertising/PR, it all started at LH.
"I definitely developed my work ethic at Lake Highlands," Newhouse said. "It was a lot of hard work that paid off when I got to TCU."
