Matthew Keath is a senior on this year’s wrestling squad. Keath has been wrestling on the varsity team since he was a freshman when he competed in the 103-pound weight class. Keath is now in the 145-pound division.
Q: What was it like wrestling on the varsity team as a freshman?
A: It was really hard to do. I wrestled five of the top 10 wrestlers in the state in that weight class. But it gave me a ton of experience and I learned a lot from it.
Q: Who is your favorite band to listen to?
A: I would have to say the Old 97’s. I really like their music and their style.
Q: Is it hard to constantly watch what you eat so that you are able to make weight for the matches and tournaments?
A: Yes it is. I usually do not have to cut as much weight as the others, though. Robbie Penny (a senior wrestler) usually has to cut weight and has a hard time with it.
Q: What is your favorite wrestling move?
A: My favorite is the guillotine. It usually ends up with the other guy being pinned.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: I saw the movie Precious over Thanksgiving break and I really enjoyed it. It had a good inspirational message behind it.
Q: What are your plans for the winter break?
A: I have a lot of wrestling practices and a tournament. I also plan to get ready for the Calculus Bowl, which is next semester.
The LH wrestling team competes in a dual meet at 6 p.m. Friday at Highland Park.
