Lake Highlands’ boys basketball team will have its hands full from the start. The Wildcats open the season at home tonight, 7:30 in the LHHS Gym, against Plano West.

Plano West is ranked No. 7 in the state in the TABC’s preseason rankings.  They’ve started a front line measuring 6-7, 6-8 and 6-11 in their scrimmages – and that’s without Jackson Jeffcoat, who is as ferocious a basketball player as he is a highly-touted recruit in football. Plano West’s football season just ended, so there’s a chance Jeffcoat could play against the Wildcats.

"The height will present problems for us," LH coach Rob Wylie said. "Hopefully our pressure and trapping will allow us to speed up the game."

LH has four returning varsity players, but two of them re-aggravated ankle sprains last week. And, of course, LH’s football star, Ricky Zorn, is occupied with Tyler John Tyler this week.

"How quickly the new guys adjust to varsity play will also be critical," Wylie said.
