The Merriman Park Elementary PTA will host its annual fundraiser auction November 21 at Gilley’s, and this year it will be extra-special. The event will celebrate the school’s 30 year anniversary while raising funds for student programs.

Auction chairmen Kay Altom, Liz Kluever and Meredyth Childress have been working hard to ensure a fun filled evening, and they’re inviting the community, including all 30 past PTA presidents, to attend. You can buy a $10 raffle ticket for a chance to win an iPod, laptop or other prizes, donate a product or service to be auctioned, give a donation of $30 for 30 years (or any other amount), and/or attend the event. Auction tickets are $40, or the “Cool in the Gang VIP” pass – including 2 tickets, recognition and a VIP reception before the auction – can be yours for $150.

One auction item will permit the lucky winner and his friends to become Junior Bell Boys at an LHHS football home game next year. Last year’s winning bidders, Mike and Kelly Mason, watched from the sidelines as son Ben and his friend, Stephen Matthews, ate Chick-fil-A, rang the bell and hung with the guys at Homecoming. “They loved it,” Kelly told me. Their favorite part was driving through the neighborhoods and ringing the bell, and it was fun leading the team onto the field after halftime and throwing mini footballs into the stands. Ben said he would rather be a Bell Boy than a football player when he gets to high school. It was a special night that they will remember for a long time.”
