Our own Erin Moyer, who writes the Live Local column each month in the Lake Highlands Advocate, recently has been bending my ear  about a shopping event the Lake Highlands Area Early Childhood PTA is putting together. For those of you who haven’t met Erin, she’s one of those moms who can juggle a kid on one hip, hold another one by the hand, and somehow do an additional 20 things simultaneously. (She’s way too modest to put it this way, but seriously, she puts me to shame.)

Our neighborhood is full of amazing moms like her, and the ECPTA recently decided to host a shopping soiree to showcase their members’ businesses. It was going to be a small affair, but as word got around, the ECPTA was deluged with other Lake Highlands businesses wanting to get involved. Now more than 40 neighborhood businesses are participating, and vendor applications are still being accepted through this coming Monday, Nov. 9. Non-members can participate for $35, and there’s also a business card table that service persons and/or contractors can participate in for $5. (Contact Erin for more information — and tell her about your neighborhood business! She’s always looking for good column fodder.)

It’s all happening on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m.-noon and 4-9 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church. Mark your calendars — this will be a great way to get your holiday shopping done while supporting neighborhood businesses. Live local, Lake Highlands! And keep visiting the Back Talk blog for more info on the soiree.
