Two years ago, 32-year-old fire fighter Julio Alvarado of Royal and Greenville’s Station No. 28 was the victim of a fatal car accident involving a drunk driver. Tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., Alvarado’s widow will be speaking at the station for Mothers Against Drunk Driving North Texas‘ kick-off of Tie One On for Safety.
Red ribbons and decals will be passed out to those in attendance so drivers can affix them to their cars, reminding themselves and others to "drive safe, sober and buckled up," says Mary Kardell, MADD North Texas executive director. Every year, more than 1,000 people die in drunk driving crashes between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve, she adds.
