If you went to or watched the Aggie game at Cowboy Stadium and thought you saw a jersey labeled “Renkes,” it wasn’t your imagination. That was LH’s own Scott Renkes, 2008 graduate of LHHS. He tried out as a freshman and earned a walk-on spot in the spring. He’s now on the team as a redshirt freshman, enjoying life as a Fighting Aggie. “I haven’t played in a game yet,” he told me, “but the experience on Kyle Field the first three games has been incredible. The fans are awesome and it’s definitely been amazing cheering on the team from the field.”

His schedule, though, is tough. “On Monday and Wednesday, I wake up around 5:15 am, practice from 6-7:15, then head to class. I usually get back home in time to grab lunch and relax or study before practice until 5:30 or 6.” But Scotty’s not complaining. “I’ve made a lot of friends on the team and we always have a good time together.”

Scott has some experience watching college kickers in action. His brother Bobby, LHHS graduate in 2003, did the honors for Notre Dame. Scott says Bobby and second brother Kevin, also an Aggie, are supportive and cheer him on.

In his spare time, Scott teaches waterskiing for Heger Watersports Camp, where he’s collected a bevy of young fans. No matter what stats he accumulates over the years – no matter whether or not he ever takes the field – he’s earned star status in their young eyes.
