Lake Highlands junior Meron Fessahaie continued his stellar run through cross country season by finishing third in the Keller Classic on Saturday. Fessahaie finished the 5K course in 16:05, just 15 seconds behind the winner, despite running on tired legs.

"He’s been training on a lot of hill workand it tires out your legs," LH coach Alonna Knott said. "He said he felt tired. It’s the middle of the season and that’s a pretty common thing for him."

The boys team placed eighth overall in a very competitive field. Jordan Gerber was LH’s next-best finisher in 17:14, just ahead of fellow senior Nathan Hogg in 17:34.

The girls team finished 14th overall and ran with just six runners, instead of the normal seven, because of illnesses. Sophomore Jayme MacDonald led the way with a time of 13:25. Sara Shaw was next in 13:29 followed by Michal Ann Starr in 13:57.

LH stays close to home this Saturday with the Jesuit Classic at Norbuck Park.
