A neighbor e-mailed me saying he had to wait 30 minutes in line to buy a ticket to the Skyline game Friday. I’m sorry to say this is not unusual for Lake Highlands (or Berkner) home games. When I’ve gone to games as a civilian, I’ve stood in the long lines for walk-up sales, too. The new pressbox structure hasn’t done anything to speed up the process. There was even a long, snaking line for the Red and White game last spring.

One time I saw a stadium worker grab a handful of tickets and sell them to people in line who had exact change. It was the only way those fans made it in before kickoff.

RISD athletic director Bob Dubey and his staff are the hardest-working athletic staff I’ve seen on Friday nights, making sure all goes well at the games. But speeding up ticket sales is something they can’t control.

"Our problem is, we check every student ID for safety reasons," Dubey said. "I know the lines are long but I do not have an answer to the problem. Yes, we take exact change for some, but that did not happen Friday due to other problems on the other side of the stadium."

Dubey recommends people take advantage of the presales at the high school, freshman center and junior highs on game days. Not only do you avoid the long lines, you get a discount. If you didn’t buy season tickets, that’s your best option if you can’t get to the games early. And if you don’t show up early, you know the real issue at Wildcat-Ram: Parking.
