I got a chance to see Skyline play Plano East last Friday and if you were hoping Skyline was overrated, forget about it. Skyline is for real.

Skyline is ranked No. 18 in the latest National Prep Poll and No. 4 in the Associated Press state poll. Much of that is because Skyline (3-0) has nine players committed to major colleges. Perhaps their top prospect is linebacker Corey Nelson, who is committed to Texas A&M. But receiver Mike Davis, an LSU commit, is as dangerous as any WR you’ll see and Tony Drake, who’s headed to Michigan, is a lightning-quick running back.

But what makes Skyline legit, to me, is the way it uses its talent. Although QB Javia Hall is a competent passer, completing 63 percent and tossing 7 TDs so far, Skyline doesn’t get cute inside the 20 and start throwing the ball around. Against Plano East, a 45-19 win, Skyline ran the ball inside the 20 every time – save for one apparent pass attempt that resulted in a sack.

Skyline has wicked-good skill players, but maybe the biggest problem LH will face is Skyline’s massive offensive line. Skyline coach Reginald Samples plays it smart inside the red zone and uses his earth-movers to get the ball into the end zone. He saves the fancier stuff for between the 20s.
