The so called “fun” days of cross country are quickly nearing the finish line. This means that the meets, starting next week, will actually count.

Last week’s Greenhill Relays was more of a pre-season meet, where the teams geared up for the upcoming season. The boys’ team finished 14th out of 51 squads and the girls’ team was 23rd out of 48 teams.

“I was very pleased with our performance.” coach Alonna Knott said. “We have worked very hard and the results should start coming.”

The first chance for this to happen will be at the McKinney Invitational at Ervin Park on Sept. 12th. According to Knott, this event is one of the team’s favorites.

“The kids really look forward to this. It’s up there in the country and they enjoy it a lot.”

The expectations for both teams (boys and girls) are extremely high coming into the season. Repeating as district champions isn’t something they see as a farfetched idea, but as reality. And the journey to accomplishing that begins next Saturday in McKinney.

“I think we need to go up to McKinney and have a good performance out there,” Knott said.

The team will hold time trials today on campus. It’s similar to regular practice, with the runners’ times being calculated.
