In scoring 31 points and not letting Mesquite catch its breath for a minute, Lake Highlands showed its offense hasn’t lost a step from last year.
This was especially true at the wide receiver position. Anthony Harris led Lake Highlands with six catches for 65 yards and a touchdown grab in the back of the end zone. Harris also had a five-yard rushing touchdown.
“He did a great job, just a great game,” coach Scott Smith said.
Harris was not alone in wreaking havoc on the Skeeters’ secondary. Matt Werther had a 27 yard touchdown reception to put Lake Highlands up 31-7 in the second half.
Six different receivers caught passes for a total of 141 yards and two touchdowns. Spearheading the attack was quarterback Ricky Zorn, who looked impressive running the option to near perfection.
“I don’t think they dropped a pass all game,” Zorn said. “They are young guys and they’re getting better each week.”
The offensive line helped out the cause as well, allowing only one sack and keeping Zorn virtually pressure-free for the entire game. Their run blocking was excellent too, as Lake Highlands finished the game with 312 rushing yards on 45 carries.
Zorn led the way with 101 rushing yards and Desmond Roland racked up 79 yards on nine carries.
