We’ve had discussions here ever since the Town Center was announced about getting an Alamo Drafthouse – the Austin-based chain that was one of the pioneers of the movie and dinner concept. And Alamo has steadfastly and consistently ignored this area.

The company is staying true to form, with the announcement that it will open a theater this fall in Washington, D.C.’s exurbs (in a story in the trade magazine Film Journal International). So what does Winchester, Va., have that Lake Highlands doesn’t? “Alamo is creating its own market from the ground up,” says company boss John Martin.

Also in the story: Alamo has an agreement with a “well-known multi-unit operator and restaurant group which is taking down the rest of Texas and building out the state beyond already confirmed Alamo locations.” No word on whether that includes Dallas or Lake Highlands.
