Dr. Robert Iden, known as “Dr. Bob” to generations of LH residents, will join the faculty of Bishop Lynch High School as a teacher and coach. He begins his new job this week.

Dr. Bob retired a year ago after ten years as principal of Lake Highlands High. Before that he taught at the school and coached track and football, and he graduated from LHHS in 1970.

Dr. Bob spent the last year as a realtor for Ebby Halliday, but he frequently attended events where his former students were being honored. He was the keynote speaker at the LHHS Baccalaureate ceremony in May, and he attended graduation in June, sitting with the families of the top ten graduates. It was evident to many of us that Dr. Bob missed the teachers and the kids.

Bishop Lynch is a private, coed, Catholic school serving many Lake Highlands and East Dallas families. One of many things BL has in common with LHHS is the Blue Ribbon School designation for high academic achievement, an award earned by LHHS during Dr. Bob’s tenure. Bishop Lynch has about 1,100 students in grades 9-12 playing 19 sports and frequently wins the TAPPS All-Around Trophy for earning tops scores in athletics, academics, and the arts. Dr. Bob will teach Honors World History and will serve as assistant coach for Friars’ head coach Bill Persinger.

Your best chance to wish Dr. Bob best of luck is likely to be the Fourth of July parade this Saturday. He’ll be the guy giving hugs and high fives to all his former students.
