I’ve been driving past this relatively new burger joint called Boston Burger on Skillman just north of I-635 for a few weeks now. The first time I stopped in, about a month ago when they first opened, the credit card machine was down and I had zero cash so I had to pass. But last night everything was functional, so I actually got food: At 7 p.m. the restaurant is practically empty, roomy, clean and comfortable and the service at the counter was super friendly and efficient — at this point I am thinking, man, “I really hope the food is great” because I had a warn fuzzy feeling about the place, and it’s right up the road from my house. I ordered a veggie burger for myself, and a Bubba BBQ burger with bacon and cheddar for my son. From our seats we could watch the cook grill the burgers, which took less than 10 minutes, and the food did not disappoint. We got fresh, fast, simple, juicy flavorful burgers— which is all you really want when it comes to burgers— my son inhaled his and said, “man, that was good.” The sandwiches aren’t huge, but filling enough and they all cost under $5. There are 11 different types of burgers on the menu including a New England burger with red onion and blue cheese, a chiliburger smothered in chili and cheddar, and a turkey burger, to name a few.  They also serve sloppy Joe, hot wings, salads, kids meals and milk shakes. The owner is the same guy who owns Michelle’s Homestyle Cooking, a popular spot just around the corner. Adjacent to the burger shop is Swirls Ice Cream Parlor, which workers tell me will be open sometime next week. I promised I’d be back. And I will. I just hope they get enough business to stay open.

Boston Burger, 9205 Skillman, is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday – Thursday; 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Phone: 214-553-9033.
