We reported last year that AutoNation was seeking a tenant who would redevelop the former site of a Bankston Chevrolet dealership at Abrams and Northwest Highway, but so far, nothing has materialized. Florida-based AutoNation, which owns Bankston, moved the dealership to Interstate 635 near the Dallas North Tollway, but is locked into a lease on the Abrams property until 2012.
AutoNation hired SRS Real Estate Partners, formerly Staubach Retail, to find a tenant who would want to redevelop the 13-acre property into a retail center. AutoNation still has a collision center there, but is willing to move that too.
“We no longer want the property,” said Harry Brumley, AutoNation’s national director of real estate. “We would be open to vacating the property completely. But we will continue to pay the rent in this down market until we find a tenant or the lease expires.”
