One reason why I enjoy following politics so much is that not only anything can happen, but it usually does. Case in point was the Lake Highlands council election, where incumbent Jerry Allen defeated challenger Don Sanders easily.

But two things struck me. Allen, who was an ardent supporter of the convention center hotel, got fewer votes than the Vote No side in district 10. Which means that some 400 people voted against the hotel, but either for Allen or didn’t vote in the council race. Second, and even more bizarre, was the voting in precinct 2208, around Walnut Hill and Audelia. Allen, the Vote No guy, lost the precinct by four votes. But the Vote No side won it by 125 votes, and that was the largest Vote No total in district 10. That’s just the opposite of what one would expect to happen. Go figure.
